Abstract—Many kinds of spatio-temporal patterns appear in various fields of engineering including chemical and biological engineering. Among such spatio-temporal patterns, analyses of patterns created by the so-called self-organization are very important as basic problems in engineering, mainly because analyses of the spatio-temporal patterns in phase transitions of polymeric materials are essential to develop new materials and the analyses of epidermal patterns of animals and seashell patterns shed light on mystery in biology. In this paper, focusing on the chemotactic bacterial colony patterns as the spatio-temporal patterns created by the self-organization, we study the influence of the random disturbance on the colony formations.

Index Terms—Chemotaxis, colony formations, E. coli, numerical simulations, semi-solid media, stochastic reaction diffusion systems, S. typhimurium.

Abstract—We use a general formalism previously developed for the 2D classical Heisenberg square lattice. We recall the closed-form expressions derived for the thermodynamic quanti-ties of main interest, notably the correlation length and the dy-namic and static susceptibilities. The theoretical model allows one to fit correctly the experimental correlation length of the well-known compound Rb2MnF4 and the experimental suscep-tibility data  of the recently synthetized antiferromagnet ??Mn(minc)2(N3)2?n? characterized by a 2D classical square lattice (where “minc” is the abbreviation for the ligand methyl isonicotinate).

Index Terms—Ferrimagnetism, Heisenberg coupling, magnetic semiconductors, superconductors.

Abstract—The widespread use of control, or recently coined mechatronic, systems mandates a rigorous engineering approach towards embedded software development, i.e. model-based development using repositories of prefabricated software components. The main problem that has to be addressed in this context is to systematically develop the software framework for mechatronic applications, taking into account the true nature of them, which are predominantly continuous-time/discrete-event processes, hierarchical and concurrent systems. The implications of the adopted modelling technique by integration of component-based design and verification are discussed in the context of mechatronic domain systems. The result is a hierarchical-modular signal flow metamodel in which process and control tasks are clearly differentiated. The results have been used to formulate the guidelines used to develop COMDES - a software development framework for distributed component modelling of mechatronic real-time applications.

Index Terms—Distributed control, modelling, real-time systems, software engineering.

Abstract—Borehole measurement systems are used for measuring parameters in borehole exploration facilities. Measuring methods include the use of various sophisticated tools that are descended into boreholes. Various parameters are to be monitored in order to avoid damaging expensive equipment. These parameters include tool speed, depth, cable tension and tool tip differential tension. These parameters can be analized offline using log file. This paper presents a solution which meets the requirements for monitoring and displaying these parameters on the borehole site.

Index Terms—Acquisition, logging, measurement system, monitoring, well.

Abstract—An improved encoder circuit that operates at any frequency is presented. As no one shot circuits are used, its operation is extended to higher values of the frequency, as compared with a previous approach [1]. This results in improved reliability of the circuit operation. An exact formula describing the coding factor of inverse differential Manchester code in terms of normalized frequency   and probability p of a mark at the coder input is derived using a Mealy-type finite-state-machine approach. The low-frequency asymptote is determined as a function of the probability p.

Index Terms—Encoder circuit, inverse differential Manchester, line code, low-frequency asymptote, power spectral density, practical implementation.

Abstract—In a highly competitive telecommunication market where price differences have been minimised, quality of service (QoS) has become a critical differentiating factor. In the context of telecommunication systems, QoS is defined as the collective effect of service performance, which determines the degree of a user’s satisfaction with the service. Voice communication quality is one of the most visible and important aspects for QoS. Since voice quality is not generally guaranteed in an IP network, the ability to monitor and design for this quality is a top priority. From the point of view of ensuring quality design and management, methodologies for perceptual measurements for voice over IP (VoIP) networks are essential. This article reviews the development of perceptual quality measurements as mainly applied to VoIP networks.

Index Terms—Perceptual quality measurements, voice quality, VoIP networks.

Abstract—As Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) standards, such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, RFID become more common, it might be interesting to improve the functionality of existing products by adding a wireless interface. To test the possibilities and limitations of the different standards, a universal hardware platform which supports different wireless standards is a handy tool. In this work a hardware platform that allows rapid prototyping and fast evaluation is described. The platform allows implementing both the functionality of the existing product and the wireless standard of interest. For the implementation of the standardized wireless interface, RF extension boards are plugged onto the universal hardware platform and the required software libraries are provided.

Index Terms—Development platform, FPGA, microcontroller, WPAN.

Abstract—In this work is proposed a hardware implementation method of Safe Petri Net model (SaPN). The processing structure presents an interaction between homogeny processing elements functional defined. On dependence of interconnections of elements, there can be implemented any complexity of Safe Petri Net model. The processing elements represent a flexible architecture, which permit to adjust them to Safe Petri Net model. Using this architecture and interactions of elements we obtained a reduced time of processing to checking Safe Petri Net to reachability, viability and other behavior properties.

Abstract—Many people with disabilities are on the wrong side of the digital divide and are over-represented amongst the groups most likely to be excluded from the internet and wire-less technologies. Services based on such technologies could be an extremely useful resource for disabled people but the shape of them is a complex process. In this paper we present foresight studies and particularly scenarios as tools for shaping mobile wireless services for disabled people and give some examples.

Abstract—The nature of the multi-rate dynamics of the process makes it very attractive for applications, since the multi-rate phenomena are complex. This paper presents a research methodology for describing a two-rate stochastic control system as a state-space (SS) type decomposed models of multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) stochastic subsystems with the "fast" and "slow" neural networks (NNs) control structures. An illustrative example from the aircraft industry – decomposed two-rate NN control of stochastic model of a tracking system for an experimental aircraft – was carried out using the proposed two-rate SS decomposition technique. The results of decomposition of an original stochastic system on two-rate autonomous subsystems are tested with the help of the block diagrams of functioning for the given original control system with single linear-quadratic-Gaussian controller (LQGC) and for the two-rate control system with six neural network reference controllers (NNRCs). This example demonstrates that this research technique results in simplified low-order MIMO autonomous subsystems with various discretization periods and with various speeds of actuation, and shows the quality of the proposed technique. The simulation results with use of software package Simulink demonstrate that this research technique would work for real-time MIMO stochastic systems.

Index Terms—Aircraft control, models, multi-rate, neural networks, simulation.
