8. TECHNICAL, ECONOMICAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT

8.1. Technical and scientifical impact

Looking at the existing national and international research in what concerns gestue recognition, we consider our proposal to be of a great multi disciplinary scientifical interest through the fundamental psycholingustic research (studies conducted on gestures and on the users' capacity of communicating by the means of gesture with information and robotics systems) as well as through the objectives regarding gesture acquisition in a stereoscopical view. The partners are represented by research teams from universities and research ceneters as well as by enterprise teams and potential beneficiers.

8.2. Economic impact

The economic impact can be identified on the growth of the competitivity of the Romanian national research with regards to the European level by imposing a new concept of gesture based interaction and proposing complete and viable low cost procedures with respect to current solutions (video processing that is non intrusive and does not importunate the user, inducing him the feeling of naturalness; low costs as the equipment only consiste of video cameras with respect to other existing technologies based on magnetic, acoustic, intertial methods – see the discussion on existing gesture acquisition technologies as part of the state of the art in chapter 2 – these existing technologies, apart from the high cost that they demand, importunate the user with additional equipments and devices). The project establishes a RD partnership at regional level and creates the premises of development at international level.

8.3. Social impact

The project objectives will lead towards a better understanding of the communication abilities of users with an information system (systems that are present and indispensable more and more in the real world life, at the individual level as well as at the colectivity's). Also, we are providing a natural and flexible modality of interaction with effects in the growth of productivity and safety levels for severl activity areas (productivity in virtual collaborative modeling, safety in controlling robotics systems in dangerous and high risk environments, etc.)

We also consider opportunities for education by involving in the research activity young researchers such as master and PhD students. An important aspect in the development of the project is represented by the stimulation and formation of new researchers, by providing them with the infrastructure and existing material resources of our laboratories. We are thinking to the master and PhD students as well as to the young researchers members of the Research Center in Computer Science of the University of Suceava. Also, we support their activity in what concerns their affirmation in the publishing area. Young researchers are already involved in the project (for ex. as. drd. Tudor Ioan Cerlincă, as. drd. Marius Cerlincă, drd. Radu Daniel Vatavu). For other several objectives, we will try to stimulate and encourage final year students.
