7. RESULTS/ PROFITS AND DIAGRAM/CAPITALIZATION PLAN/ DISSEMINATION

7.1. Results

The proposal aims both fundamental research in what concerns human gestures and the user's capacity of communicating by means of gesture with information and robotics systems as well as applicative research by developing an interaction system using only video information and its validation by implementing the system in 4 different scenarions.

Quantifiable results:

    1. gesture dictionary consisiting in postures and trajectories, validated by ergonomic studies and experimentations using volunteer users. Video database corresponding to the dictionnary
    2. hand and head gesture recognition application
    3. gesture based interaction system by considering the gesture dictionary and the hand and head gesture recognition application
    4. gesture based interaction system for a virtual reality application
    5. gesture based interaction system for an augmented reality application
    6. gesture based interaction with the static arm type robot Hercules
    7. gesture based interaction with the mobile robot Centaure

7.2. Benefits

The benefits of the project can be identified in the domain of basic fundamental research in the psycholinguistic field (by the means of studies on gestures and on the user's capacity of communication with information and robotics systems) as well as in the applicative research by developing a gesture based interaction system and validating it by 4 implemenations in 4 different scenarios (virtual reality, augmented reality, static robot controlling, mobil robot control).

We consider the project as being pluridisciplinary, at the frontier of scientifical and technical knowledge. The proposal favorises the identification of human and material resources of high specialization in prioritary RD domains with consequences in promotion of the compatibility and competitivity of the national research with regards to the European Union and PC7 tendences.

7.3. Dissemination of the results will be achieved as follows:

    § firstly, the web page of the research team will contain the latest results and references to published material. We also consider a discussion forum that will facilitate the exchange of knowledge with regards to the project's objectives. The web page and the forum will involve young researchers such as final year students, master and PhD students.
    § seminars and scientifical discussions will be organized (by the means of the Development & Application Systems conference, IEEE sponsored which is organized biannually)
    § on the national level we will consider dissemination of the results at the conferences organized by the local ACM SIGCHI group, RoCHI for human computer interaction
    § on the international level we will consider the important conferences in the field such as: International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces, Annual Conferences on Human Computer Interaction, Annual Conferences on Human-Robot Interaction, IEEE symposium on 3D User Interfaces
    § we consider the publication of at least 3 articles in ISI indexed journals (The Journal of the Pattern Recognition Society – Elsevier, International Journal of Computer Vision - Springer Science, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence - IEEE Computer Society)

7.4. Copyrights

The intellectual copyrights are the property of each partner by means of the results obtained according to the plan of development as presented in appendixes A3.1 and A3.2. The industrial copyrights are the property of the University of Suceava.
